What is Karsten and Characters?
We are professional game masters! We have all the knowledge, toys, and specialized skills needed to take you on TTRPG adventures like those popularized by Dungeons & Dragons, Critical Roll, and Stranger Things. We provide quality entertainment through structured, imaginative play.
Where do we play?
We currently offer our services in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We can meet you at your house, the local library, Your Hobby Place, Games Garrison, or even upstairs at Wegmans! We may be available for travel upon request. Some of our coaching services are available remotely.
How much does it cost?
It varies depending on how you want your games structured. A one-time three hour game night typically costs $250. Self-organized groups of five can enjoy a three hour game once a month for $40. A two-hour LARP tournament for up to 16 people is typically $200. Contact us for a quote.
Do you offer accommodations?
We are happy to provide reasonable accommodations and have experience working with individuals from diverse populations. However, some participants may experience uncomfortable emotions by participating in our immersive experiences. As such, our services may not be for everyone.

Where can I learn how to play?
Learn by doing! We provide everything you need to get started. All you have to do is show up ready for adventure!
Are you a therapist?
No, we are not therapists or counselors. Some people may find our services therapeutic, but they are provided strictly for entertainment purposes only.
What specific games do you run?
We mostly play Dungeons & Dragons 5e and Critical Core.
What materials do you use?
We use store bought, 3d printed, and hand painted minis. Every player receives their own custom, laser-engraved, and self-colored wooden standee mini. Our high quality foam LARP weapons are custom made by Gorg the Blacksmith.
What does TTRPG mean?
TTRPGs are Table-Top-Role-Playing-Games. They are typically played around a large table using dice, paper, pencils, and imagination. Dungeons & Dragons is the "name-brand" TTRPG.
What does LARP mean?
LARPing is Live-Action-Role-Play. It is typically played in an empty field using costumes, foam weapons, and imagination. Sword-fighting friends can be a surprisingly good workout.
